H.264 Video CodecsVideo compression is enabling technology behind a new wave of communication applications. With the widespread adoption of technologies such as digital television, Internet streaming video and DVD-Video, video compression has become an essential component of broadcast and entertainment media.
At SMG, we are working to develop an Advanced Video Codec based on the H.264 standard. It is a real-time codec highly optimized for speed and low CPU consumption for the embedded CPU applications. It can be an ideal solution for applications that require a very high level of compression efficiency.
The codec is highly object oriented, written in generic ANSI C++ and can be used for all popular platforms. The code can be optimized for any MSOC (media system on chip) like the TI C6X platform - DM642, OMAP etc.
H.264 is the next-generation video compression technology also known as MPEG-4 Part 10. H.264 can match the current best possible MPEG-2 quality at up to half the data rate. H.264 also delivers excellent video quality across the entire bandwidth spectrum — from 3G to HD and everything in between (from 40 Kbps to upwards of 10 Mbps).
H.264 is the result of the combined efforts of two standards bodies — the ITU (International Telecommunication Union) and ISO MPEG (International Organization for Standardization’s Moving Picture Experts Group) — that together formed a body called the Joint Video Team (JVT).
